Ancient Chinese people have a say, 'What can most effectively help us feel better when we are upset? Only wine can do that.' Does wine just mean a 'painkiller' of soul? I admit that I am an alcoholic (but I never allow myself to get drunk), wine means a lot to me.
Often, we drink when we feel depressed. When I feel very unhappy, I like to drink a bit. Wine cannot help solve problem, but when I drink a bit, I gradually feel a bit dizzy and too tired to think too much about the trouble. Wine can help me get a little rest from my stressful life, and this rest helps me to get back my energy to work and to tackle the problems.
To gain excitement is another reason that makes us drink. Wine appears nearly in every celebrations and parties. Surely, even if we don・t drink, we can still have a great time during parties, but obviously, wine can really create a more exciting atmosphere and makes the people feel more passionate!
Drinking helps to strengthen our guts! Actors in films drink before they fight, this appears in 5 out of 10 Chinese martial art movies. For me, when I do not have the gut to do something I normally won't do, I may drink a bit to make myself brave enough to act. I believe many people have experience like this.
I have a very good example to share. My friend loves a handsome guy for a long period of time but she dared not to let him know. One day we went for happy hour and after drinking some wine, she was so brave to call the guy and let him know how much she adored him. Now they are going to get engaged soon! How lovely wine is!
When we want to create a relaxing environment, we drink. In many events alcohols are provided, like cocktail receptions, 'Table for Four' dating, casual interviews and orientation. Wine is provided to create a less stressful and more relaxing environment, so that people can make friends easily. The atmosphere would not be that relaxing without wine.
Scholars and news groups always emphasize how harmful drinking is. No doubt, many crimes like speed-driving, wounding and raping are caused by severe intoxication, however, drinking wine is not equivalent to crime.
To drink does not necessarily mean to err, what matters is always the amount you drink. Never rely on alcohol, it can soothe your pain, but cannot cure your unhappiness. Drink wisely, act wisely.
