Lanzarote and the Canary Islands are popular with holidaymakers on cheap holidays and appear to offer so much to the holidaymaker to enjoy on their getaway. Situated just 100km from Africa and lying the furthest east of all the Canaries, the constantly good temperatures, sunny climate and beaches are just a few reasons why people keep returning.
There are a variety of drinks associated with Lanzarote and it is easy to enjoy a relaxing holiday experiencing all this place has on offer. Rum is a popular Canarian spirit but what makes one kind unique is its mixture with honey to create very sweet liqueur.
Although the main grape grown on Lanzarote is the Malvasia grape, a particularly strong white grape, Lanzarote still produces a red grape and this is used often in its sangria. No trip to a Spanish island would be complete without sampling the local sangria and Lanzarote's is a particularly strong blend of red wine, island liqueurs, fresh fruit and ice with the addition of lemonade if you so wish.
The Canary Island's wine industry was established at the start of the 16th century and is believed that the Portuguese first brought wines over to the Canary Islands. Wine-lovers should be sure to pay a visit to the El Grifo Wine Museum on their Lanzarote holidays and this is located close to the region of La Geria. This region is well known for its vines and there are many tours and tasting sessions that you can take part in nearby.
El Grifo is the oldest wine cellar and dates back to approximately 1775, when it was built on volcanic lava left over from an eruption. The wine museum that stands on the grounds is open 365 days a year and there are daily tours and wine tasting sessions. A visit here helps you understand a little more about the history of the island.
Lanzarote is everyone's favourite Canary Island and it's not hard to find great Lanzarote holidays in the region.
