Wine Tasting Party

A wine tasting party is a great way to get together with friends and family and to learn about wines and taste different wines. Finding out how many people are attending is the first step to organizing a successful wine tasting party. Once the guest list is determined you must send out invitations at least two weeks in advance.

You can save a lot of time with a wine tasting kit that includes all the paraphernalia you need to get the ball rolling. Just like baseball cards have homers, batting average and RBI, wine tasting cards have info on the vineyard, year and the type of wine, among others - you can create tasting cards yourself.

Next, create a card for all your potential guests so they can note the wine's characteristics on them. You can double the fun by doing a blind tasting session, or forgoing the whole tasting card process and just having the guest write down what they think the wine is - ballpark figures for the year, and guessing which vineyard it came from, for instance.

For your wine tasting decorations first, you want to keep the room well lit. A simple table cloth is the most basic thing you need to decorate, though you can also add class with vintage items. Choose the right wine glasses, because nobody wants to down one whole glass in one sitting in these parties. The perfect amount of wine to be served to each guest is two ounces of wine per glass, per wine, per guest.

To clear your palate between wine tasting, you want to provide plain crackers or bread so that each wine can be experienced to the fullest. Other supplies needed are wine glasses. Allot no more than two wine glasses for each guest. And don't forget to have enough water handy, as well as a bowl or bucket - the water rinses the glasses, the bowl or bucket is where wine goes after tasting.

To get your guests in the mood, or to serve as after-party snacks, you can serve cheese or anything else light in flavor and texture. The temperature of all the wines being served should be room temperature to get the best flavor out of the wine. The final thing necessary for a wine tasting party is laughter and a good time had by everyone.
